Just checking in...

Hello out there in the blogosphere. It's been awhile since I've posted, so just making sure I still can. I'll be back in a few with some thought on Christian Education.

Harriet Miers, Gulf Coast, and Ethics Lapses

What do these three things have in common? They expose a Bush Administration that is a well-oiled machine in spinning and campaigning, but when it comes to governance is more like a sputtering Model T engine. These are easy things to pick on, of course. I'd have to do some more research, but Harriet Miers may be the least qualified person ever nominated to the Court. FEMA looked like the Keystone Cops in their response to the hurricanes, and Karl Rove, Bill Frist, and Tom Delay form their own "axis of evil" in ethical violations.

But I think there is a deeper issue here: behind the bad governance of this Administration and GOP leadership who are Christian believers is bad theology. This group of people, especially President Bush, believes they have been put in office directly by God. Now, the Providence of God is way too big and diverse an issue to try to settle in a blog, but God is not a divine puppet master or king-maker (at least since the fall of the kingdoms of Israel and Judah).

History has shown us how dangerous it is when national leaders think they are acting on God's behalf, with special ordination of God, or are themselves God. This is what I think is happening today. Instead of being co-opted by the Republican Party, the Christain Church has a responsibilty to be a prophetic voice speaking out against such arrogance.

Shalom,

This week in A-Ron

I promised you I would post soon...the challenge is keeping this up. This week (and the next couple), I am chillin' in Grove City, Ohio (a suburb of Columbus, OH) with my wife Chrissy at her grandma's. It's still taking some getting used to, saying "my wife" but since we only got married on August 6th, I think it's understandable. Married life so far is great and I am so blessed to be married to such a wonderful young woman. Tomorrow, I'll go to work with Chrissy for a half day and then we'll pick up our good friend and solid confessional Lutheran, Lori at the airport. Wednesday night, we're taking in the travelling production of the Phantom of the Opera in Columbus. I love the music and enjoyed the movie and am extremely excited. Friday night, Chrissy and I are having our Ohio wedding reception (to be followed in September by a wedding in my hometown of Delmont, SD). My best man, Mike, is flying in this weekend as well from Aberdeen, SD. Saturday night is my "public" birthday party at Chrissy's parents (though my birthday isn't until Monday, Aug. 22). Hope all is well with the reader, or at least well enough. Remember, no matter what temperature a room is, it's room temperature.
Peace,
A-Ron

it's been awhile...

Hey all. For all of you who have checked this every once and awhile expecting an update, I apologize for my lack of updates. Since my last post in December, a really big event happened in my life - I got married! It's crazy, I know, but I found the love of my life at Luther Seminary, pursuing my call to ministry in the Evangelical Church in America. My wife, Chrissy (or Chris to those of us at Luther) has a blog of her own, http://chrisinbetween.blogspot.com, and for those interested in our wedding pics, she created a blog for just such a purpose, http://aaron-n-chris.blogspot.com. I promise to keep you all updated much better on my, or should I now say Chris and my life from now on. God Bless.
p.s. check back soon I will update!

American Splendor

I know what you're thinking...if indeed anybody has visited this site. I know that the idea of a blog is to constantly post stuff, and I haven't for over a week. Well, I'm pretty darn busy with finals, so back off. But I did find time in between studying for Greek and Pentateuch to watch a really great movie, "American Splendor." Just an all-around good movie in all aspects - acting, writing, directing, production, what have you. And Paul Giamatti is becoming one of my favorite actors with performances like this and the one he gave in "Duets." Remember folks, ordinary life is pretty complex stuff.
Peace.
